10 Must-Haves for a Healthy & Happy Family Spring Break

spring break

There’s nothing worse than getting sick while trying to enjoy time off or away. So here’s our essential list for a fun, memory-filled (no sickies) spring break.

My kids live for spring break — the much-awaited break from school, sports, work… the mundane routine. I love it, too! It’s a time to embrace adventure, relaxation and unforgettable moments with friends and family.

Our family is crazy excited about our upcoming spring break adventures. We’ll be heading to the Gulf Shores in Alabama where we’re staying at a beach house with around 25 family members!

Still, it’s so important to remember that amidst the excitement and thrill of vacation, our health and well-being deserve top priority. After all, what good is a fantastic getaway or relaxing break if we're not feeling our best to enjoy it fully?

I’m Lindsey, also known as the Elderberry Queen. I’ve been turning to holistic remedies for myself and my kiddos for over 10 years now.

As a mom of five boys, I dread when one of them gets sick. It spreads like wildfire, and by the time each of us takes a turn, it feels like months have gone by. Just erased from our lives because we were so darn sick and exhausted.

I can’t even tell you how many vacations have been postponed or canceled because the flu or stomach bug was running rampant through our home.

So Many Canceled Vacations

It’s incredibly heartbreaking to cancel plans that your family has been looking forward to all year long.

Now, I don’t worry about getting sick or begging the airline for a full refund on our plane tickets. Instead, I keep ten essential items in our home and even pack them if we’re going away for spring break.

As you eagerly anticipate your upcoming vacation, it's time to start thinking about the essentials you'll need to pack to ensure a healthy and happy spring break.

We'll cover everything you need to make the most of your time away. From protecting your skin to nourishing your body and finding moments of relaxation amidst the excitement. So grab your suitcase, get ready to pack smart and let's make this spring break one for the books — filled with unforgettable experiences and well-being at every turn.

10 Spring Break Must-Haves

Alright, here are the ten essentials I make sure to pack before heading out for spring break (or any vacation, for that matter):

1. Reusable Water Bottle

Stay hydrated throughout your adventures by bringing a durable, eco-friendly reusable water bottle. Keep it filled with water or your favorite hydrating beverage to beat the heat and stay refreshed.

Try adding a few drops of lemon, grapefruit or orange essential oils to your water for natural flavor and an additional health boost for your immune system.

2. Sun Protective Clothing

sun protective clothing

We try our hardest not to use sunscreen because, upon research, I found that the toxins link to cancer. It blew my mind. The best thing you can do to protect your skin that’s not toxic at all is to wear protective clothing.

It’s hard to not roll your eyes at this, especially if you’re heading somewhere SUNNY! It’s what most of us want for spring break! Some vitamin D. But it’s all about balance.

If you need sunscreen, try making your own and using coconut oil as a base. Here is a great, non-toxic sunscreen recipe I’ve personally used that works fantastic! Be prepared because nothing ruins a vacation like a sunburn!

3. Elderberry Gummies

gummies

Getting a daily dose of elderberry is crucial for a healthy immune system. Elderberry boosts your immune system and wards off seasonal illnesses. But traveling with elderberry syrup can be a pain in the katoosh. That’s why we take elderberry gummies whenever we’re on the go. Pop one of these each day to support your body's natural defenses and stay healthy throughout your vacation.

4. Vitamin C Tablets

Keep your immune system strong and resilient by packing my Vitamin C Chewable Tablets (with added superfoods). Vitamin C is known for its immune-boosting properties and can help protect against colds, flu and other illnesses while on the go. It’s the perfect companion for elderberry gummies!

5. Essential Oil Rollers

essential oil rollers

Pack essential oil rollers to help promote relaxation, ease tension, nip headaches and tummy aches. These rollers are also optimal for enhancing your overall well-being during your travels.

I never travel without my:

Immune Support Roller — One of the kids catching something? Feeling rundown? Give their immune system the support it needs with a little rub on the bottom of their feet.

Joint Support Roller — Experiencing aches and pains? Road trips and tiny airplane seats will do that to you! Just apply this to the affected areas and let the magic happen. You’ll be ready to go in no time.

Tummy Support Roller — An upset tummy is a common theme when we’re on the road, and this roller has saved us more than once. Simply massage into the skin and soothe those tummy aches.

Head Support Roller — Headaches are the worst when traveling, hands down. I can’t function through a bad headache, and nothing works as fast as this blend. It’s quick, natural and keeps my headache at bay.

6. Herbal Healing Salve

Be prepared for minor cuts, scrapes, dry skin, irritation and insect bites with my natural soothing herbal healing salve. This multi-purpose balm can soothe and nourish your skin while relieving discomfort. It’s a handy addition to your travel first aid kit.

7. Natural Bug Spray

Ward off pesky mosquitoes and other biting insects with our DEET-free bug spray. It’s made from natural ingredients like citronella, lemongrass and spearmint essential oils. Apply generously before heading outdoors to enjoy bug-free adventures.

8. Healthy Snacks

Pack a selection of healthy snacks to keep you fueled and satisfied throughout your travels. Opt for portable options like nuts, dried fruit, granola bars and trail mix to curb hunger cravings while on the go.

    9. Loose-Leaf Tea

Wind down after a day of exploring and family fun with a soothing cup of loose-leaf tea. Pack your favorite herbal blends in a travel-friendly tea infuser or organic tea bags for a comforting and relaxing way to end the day.

    Here are my favorite blends:

Indulge in these delicious teas with all organic ingredients that will delight your senses with unique flavors, enticing aromas and quality ingredients.

    10. Travel Journal
